Tourism

Tourism is a topic that is of interest and importance to community organisations in County Donegal and its importance is acknowledged by the PPN Secretariat in establishing a Linkage Group to allow community groups to meet collectively, select representatives onto the Council’s Tourism Sectoral Forum, inform their representatives of issues to be raised at the Tourism Forum, and receive ongoing feedback directly from their representatives.

The Tourism Sectoral Forum consists of elected members of Donegal County Council, representatives from the community & voluntary sector, industry, trade and other agencies who meet on a bi-monthly to discuss issues and proposals on tourism trade shows, the LECP Plan, Wild Atlantic Way, The Islands, Donegal Tourism marketing initiatives and site visits etc.

At the first Tourism Linkage Group meeting, chaired by secretariat member Mr. Martin McBride, the Linkage Group selected members Mary McGowan of Donegal South Forum and Donnan Harvey of Letterkenny Cathedral Quarter Company Ltd. to represent them on the Tourism Forum.

This linkage group also aims to increase awareness of the various opportunities for funding which are available to community groups involved in Tourism.

Below are the reports from meetings of the Tourism Linkage Group to date:
